πŸŽ“ RSG Korea 2025 Workshop β€” Invited Lecture + 1st-Ever Hands-On Session (FREE!) πŸŽ„βœ¨

December 30, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+9
Free

RSG Korea is closing the year with a holiday treat β€” a free, expert-led afternoon on Dec 30, 1–5 PM at Seoul National University. Two powerhouse sessions in one: the invited lecture happens first, then our very first hands-on workshop. Everyone gets a certificate of participation β€” perfect timing during the Christmas break! 🎁

🎀 Invited Lecture 1

λ°•μƒμš°

Topic: Mathematical modeling of infectious disease dynamics
Speaker: Sangwoo Park, Assistant Professor , Seoul National University

Start the afternoon with Prof. Park’s insightful talk on how mathematical models help us understand, predict, and manage infectious disease outbreaks. He’ll cover real case studies (e.g., EV-D68), transmission dynamics, pathogen coexistence, and how model results can guide public health decisions. Ideal for anyone into epidemiology, computational biology, or public health.

🎀 Invited Lecture 2

Topic: Predicting genome-wide variant effects with genomic language models
Speaker: Yun S. Song, Professor, Department of Statistics & EECS, UC Berkeley

Kick off the afternoon with Prof. Song’s cutting-edge talk on how genomic language models are transforming our ability to interpret genetic variation. He will discuss how models trained directly on DNA sequences learn functional constraints, enabling powerful predictions of variant effects, improved understanding of disease mechanisms, and new insights into complex traits.

This session is especially valuable for researchers interested in genomics, AI/ML in biology, variant interpretation, and precision medicine.

🧬 Hands-on Session

Topic: Web-based protein structure prediction & analysis with ColabFold and the Foldseek suite
Instructor: Milot Mirdita β€” postdoctoral researcher, core developer of ColabFold, MMseqs2, and Foldseek

Then jump into a rare, electrifying hands-on session led by the developer himself. You’ll work through real workflows using ColabFold, MMseqs2, and Foldseek: GPU-accelerated homology search, large-scale clustering, identifying functional motifs, and turning raw sequences into biological insights. This is a truly unique chance to do hands-on science with the tools’ creator.

Why attend?

Two high-impact sessions in one afternoon: theory + practice.
Learn from a leading infectious disease modeler and the developer behind tools you’ll use.
Completely FREEΒ β€” a holiday learning gift! πŸŽ„
Certificate of participation β€” great for CVs.
* Perfect for students, early-career researchers, and computational biology enthusiasts.
